Motivation Monday

I would say that I am usually the sort of person who always pushes myself to be as positive and self motivated as possible, but recently life has been getting pretty overwhelming and I have found myself struggling to keep on top of things. Even the most enthusiastic and driven people go through tough periods where they get knocked down, but the hardest and most imperative part is getting back up again. Every successful person has worked hard to create themselves and get to where they are today, part of it may be down to good luck, but the harder you work and the more effort you put into life, the more likely you are to get lucky and therefore the more successful you will become.

I think it is important that you never let anyone tell you that you can't be successful or that you can't achieve the goal or dream that you set out to do. One of my biggest motivators is that when I look back on life in 40 years time, I want to think about how much I have achieved and how far I have managed to come in life, not regret all of the chances I missed out on. If you want want to go travelling, then go out and see the world. If you want to make a spontaneous change in job which is going to make you happier, then you do that. If you want to lose weight or get a better body then start exercising, join a gym, take up a new sport, despite what anyone else thinks. There are two great sayings by the author and motivational speaker Zig Ziglar that 'You don't have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great' and 'If you can dream it you can achieve it'. Everyone starts from nothing, its what you do with your life that defines who you become. It may be a really over-used saying but it is still very true that life is far too short to spend it doing things that make you unhappy, so start making the most of the opportunities that life presents to you and live every day like its your last.

Sometimes we end up spending so much time getting worried and stressed about being successful that we forget to just stop and take a moment to think about how incredibly lucky we are to have the gift of freedom to do what we want, to be happy and to be ourselves. I used to care way too much about what people thought of me, I would do certain things to fit in, such as wear specific clothes because it was 'cool' and its rather sad to think that I was trying to be someone I wasn't and making myself unhappy in the process. A friend of mine once told me that the moment you stop worrying about what other people think about you and start being yourself and enjoying yourself is the moment you will become so much happier and it is so true. There is only one you, take advantage of that and be original, true friends will appreciate you for who you are, and people that don't just aren't worth worrying about!

I'm going to leave this with my absolute favourite quote by Marilyn Monroe, I actually have it on my wall and fall back on it every time I am in need of some motivation to study, work out or just feel in need of some happiness.

 Remember to believe in yourself.
